The Effigies

The Effigies are a pioneering punk rock band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 1980. Along with groups such as Naked Raygun, they helped establish Chicago as a center of Midwest punk. Their early releases include the Haunted Town EP (1981) and the Body Bag/Security single (1982); the band also launched Ruthless Records, which released early records by other influential Chicago acts.

The band’s music and legacy remain an important part of Chicago punk history. Founding vocalist John Kezdy died in 2023; the album Burned, completed shortly before his death, was released in 2024.
